WELLCON…WELL DONE!

What makes a great event?  The people!   It was so good to see so many of you join us on Saturday for a day of networking and training in school wellness issues ranging from Food Safety to Tech related injuries!  We had over 100 attendees along with University of Houston Faculty speakers & College of Nursing Faculty, physicians from Memorial Hermann’s Iron Man program and UT Minimally Invasive Surgery!  The day started with a healthy breakfast and a self-care talk by UH Counseling faculty and was followed by the opening of the WELLCON expo.  This year, vendors such as our platinum sponsors, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Marathon Kids, Shape Up Fort Bend joined with community organizations, businesses and non profits to share the best in school wellness programs and services.  Attendees were exposed to a variety of topics regarding risk prevention in K-12 schools including food safety, “tech neck, how to do a bike rodeo and becoming an advocate.  The session culminated with a Q&A session with FBISD school experts in Coordinated School Health.  Then came lunch!  Thirty nine schools were recognized with the WATCH school Wellness Award at a special lunch (underwritten by United healthcare) for their wellness programs.  The fun wasn’t over yet!  After lunch, school nurses were able to refresh their clinical skills and learn about drug overdose from Texas Opioid Naloxone Initiative and concussion with Dr. Bhojani from Memorial Hermann Iron Man.  The training was rounded out by 4D experience in the UH Nurse Simulation lab, underwritten by Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition.

WELLCON would not be possible by the continued support of our AWESOME sponsors and volunteers!   A personal thank you United Healthcare and Stephanie Kellam for the awesome and healthy lunch for our WATCH school wellness champions!    Please use your WHOVA app to thank at least one of the sponsors -they are the reason the conference tickets are so low!  A comparable conference that I recently signed up for was $250 or higher- with no food!   Not to mention there is no need for sharing a hotel room or traveling to another city! Help us continue to make WELLCON training available locally- so we can continue to make the program fun and interesting for you!  And don’t forget  to reach out to them and see what they can bring to your school for health events.

WELLCON helps us create new regional partnerships!

Shout out to our New Partnerships!

Sandra Castro at DairyMax not only provided great cooler bags to stuff at WELLCON, she also is partnering to make it easier to do both WATCH School Awards and Fuel Up to Play 60!  Check out the FUEL Up to Play 60 WATCH Flyer here!

Free $$$ for running clubs…MarathonKids and FBMSA are excited to announce a FORT BEND COUNTY ONLY Grant   supporting new running clubs in the Fort Bend Area.
